Women and trade unions

Fresh opportunities

A chara, – In response to “Union membership ‘increasingly female phenomenon’, UCD study finds” (Business, June 18th), the increasing representation of women in the trade union movement in Ireland is truly a remarkable and profoundly significant achievement for women. Progress in this area has been painfully slow and limited, and this report challenges the under-representation of women in decision-making positions across all sectors. Perhaps this will alter the strategic direction and create fresh opportunities for the Irish trade union movement. – Yours, etc,
