Sir, – Mary Murtagh attempts to justify the significant pay disparity experienced by post-2012 consultants on the basis that this will lead to a fairer society (Letters, June 30th).
Even if pay discrimination against select groups is somehow the route to a fairer society, the quadrupling of vacant consultant posts since 2012 would suggest it is not the path to a healthy Ireland with access to quality healthcare. – Yours, etc,
