Sir, – Further to “EPA report says 54% of septic tank systems failed inspection in 2020″ (News, June 30th), in keeping with the laudable “green” initiatives in energy conservation, such as solar panels and home insulation, would it not seem reasonable for the Government to capitalise on the septic tank crisis? In other countries, especially rural India, effluent is used to generate gas for energy and the residue used as fertiliser. A grant towards appropriate septic tanks based on this principle might improve the lot of many householders, save money and reduce the pollution situation. – Yours, etc,
