Sir, – In relation to those homeowners who have generously offered to house Ukrainian refugees in their private accommodation, the Government has offered a flat payment of €400 per month to these homeowners.
The very sharp rise in electricity and gas prices this year will place quite a financial burden on these homeowners, not to mention costs associated with carrying out minor upgrades to their properties, obtaining Garda vetting, etc.
I think the Government should consider increasing this monthly payment to a more realistic figure to adequately compensate homeowners. Integrating refugees into communities is an excellent initiative and should be adequately resourced. – Yours, etc,
RICHARD COFFEY,
