Sir, – Given how most of longevity gains have entailed a prolonging of morbidity, rather than an actual extension of youth, I would be more inclined to take an early, but frugal, retirement, while still physically and mentally fit, with the view to ending it all should I be afflicted with some terminal condition.
It always struck me as a sick joke that one should slave away excessive portions of the best years of one’s life simply to afford a more luxurious retirement home.
Of course I should clarify that my views are my own, and I am by no means being prescriptive with respect to the rest of the population. – Yours, etc,
