A promising start

Sir, – Your front page of August 17th provides an impression of Ireland on the move. A generous response to accommodating Ukrainian refugees, a Catholic Church facing up to its shortcomings and modern realities, and a vision of a car-free town plan, sympathetic to the environment, give one cause for hope. There’s lots to be done – inequality, poverty, homelessness, health – but if the Catholic Church can face up to its own shortcomings, surely political and civic society can also rise to the challenge. There’s lots to be done in this centenary year, but it’s a good start! – Yours, etc,

TOMMY FEGAN,

Camlough,

Co Armagh.
