Sir, – I would like to offer my belated congratulations to the new director of the National Gallery of Ireland, Dr Caroline Campbell (News, August 4th).
Dr Campbell happens to be the first woman to hold that role in the gallery’s 158-year history.
I also look forward to congratulating the first women in their equally long and illustrious histories to direct the Prado in Madrid, the National Gallery in London, and the National Gallery in Berlin. I’m afraid to delve any further for fear of unveiling a rather unsettling picture indeed! – Yours, etc,
