Sir, – In line with the commitment of The Irish Times to promoting essential positive actions toward climate change and active travel, I propose that you nominate a cycling correspondent and a page on cycling and bicycles. For many years you have had a motoring correspondent and a motors page. It is now time to change focus, and to promote all forms of sustainable active travel. We need to support and promote all sustainable travel enterprises, the many bike shops, cycle repair, and cycle hire and rental businesses. While still not enough segregated cycling infrastructure, we now have more greenways, cycle paths and safer opportunities to cycle. Families are replacing second cars with cargo bicycles. Parents and students want to cycle to school and college. People of all ages wish to cycle as part of their contribution to sustainable travel. These trends need to be recognised, supported, endorsed, and promoted by our national media. – Yours, etc,
