Smart meters and energy usage

Limited data

Sir, – Carmel O’Connor (Letters, August 22nd) wrote about the benefits of smart meters and customers being able to achieve more control of their electricity consumption by moving consumption to times when electricity is cheaper. Having a smart meter installed in my house for the last two years, I’m not seeing this. When smart meters were first being talked about, consumers were promised in-home displays that would show real-time consumption and, more importantly, real-time cost. This never happened.

Recently I tried to locate the profile of my consumption being recorded by the meter. Eirgrid referred me to my supplier and neither have the facility for me to download my detailed data as I can with say my telephone usage of banking transactions. My supplier, Electric Ireland, does have some very limited data from my meter online but it’s not real time and only viewable a day at a time. For it to be useful, I would like to download my usage data so that I, or a third party, can analyse it to determine if a smart tariff is advantageous or not. Currently this is not possible.

So can anyone tell me where my smart data is and how do I access it? GDPR answers on the back of a postage stamp?
