Sir, – Cantillon rightly points to the inadequate support packages the Government has for homeowners to make their homes more energy efficient (Business, September 3rd).
I would also point to the daft situation with planning permissions for solar panels installations over six panels on houses. The removal of this requirement was part of the programme for government way back in 2020, and I looked forward to adding more panels to my roof without the unnecessary bureaucracy and expense of planning permission applications. We are still we waiting for this relatively simple piece of legislation.
While accepting that legislation is now crawling through the Oireachtas, it is all far too slow. I could decry the inadequacies of our Civil Service and political system, but I’ll keep the message simple. We are in a climate crisis and an energy crisis. Wake up. Get this done. – Yours, etc,
