Sir, – Eoin MacLachlan is absolutely right: “It is ‘Generation Rent’ who will be paying for pensions” (Opinion, October 6th).
I am part of the so-called grey vote but would gladly switch to a political party that would truly represent the real interests of the young.
Mac Lachlan refers to the “ignoble triumvirate” of housing, climate and pensions that will, likely, place intolerable burdens on future generations. I would add a fourth. That’s the scale and cost of our Government debt which, surprisingly, scarcely warranted a mention by our politicians in recent budget discussions nor, indeed, during talks on the public sector pay deal.
It is time for a new party of the young. Perhaps “The Young Irelanders”. – Yours, etc,
