JULIE DAVIS,

Dublin 18.

Sir, – No “hasta la vista” in Boris Johnson’s statement this time. More like “Buenas noches”. – Yours, etc,

COLM Ó FATHARTA,

Rathgar,

Dublin 6.

Sir, – In his mercy dash back to London, I don’t suppose Boris thought to leave a towel on his sunbed. – Yours, etc,

EITHNE MacFADDEN,

Carrigart,

Co Donegal.

Sir, – I tested positive for Covid last Tuesday and so am in isolation. The goings-on in Downing Street have been an excellent help in passing the hours.

I, for one, am most grateful! – Yours, etc,

DEIRDRE KEANE,

Bishopstown,

Cork.

Sir, – Pat Leahy states that the “collapse of Conservative support is unprecedented in British politics” (“We should worry, not laugh, about events in London”, Opinion & Analysis, October 22nd).

In the January 1906 general election, the Conservative party won only 116 seats in the “Liberal landslide”. This represented a drop of over 200 seats when compared with the 317 Conservative seats won in the “khaki election” of October 1900.

It would appear that a similar collapse is about to be visited upon the Conservatives. – Yours, etc,

DICK REEVES,

Bray,

Co Wicklow.
