Sir, – It is hard to see any reason for the Government parties to rejoice on foot of the results of your latest opinion poll (“Support for Coalition rebounds in post-budget bounce”, News, October 27th).
Given the size of that recent budget’s handouts, a combined gain of a mere six points by the three parties in Government seems to me to be a rather poor return on the money expended.
But then, that is hardly a novel outcome for this Government. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Regarding comments on increases in satisfaction with parties and leaders in the latest opinion poll, one factor that doesn’t seem to have been taken into account is the shenanigans across the Irish Sea and people breathing a sigh of relief that the politicians we have here aren’t that daft! – Yours, etc,
