Sir, – It is deeply upsetting to hear of refugees who have been settled in particular accommodation venues to be told that they have to move again. In the past few weeks there have been several cases highlighted by your newspaper.
Many of these families have small children who have enrolled in local schools and have made great strides to integrate into the local communities. It is simply unacceptable that faceless civil servants in Dublin should issue letters instructing these unfortunate people to uproot themselves and move again to a new and strange community.
If Ireland decided to accept refugees, it is incumbent on the Government to carry out a careful assessment of the proposed accommodation in advance and, once settled, to treat these people with the respect they deserve.
