A chara, – We are told that the current state of public finances is “artificially positive” (News, November 3rd).
It is funny that when we had budget deficits involving up to €10 billion in (clearly temporary and once-off) capital expenditure nobody ever said the deficit was “artificially negative”.
Especially bearing in mind that the capital projects are guaranteed to end unlike corporation tax revenues which may or may not decline!
