Sir, – On behalf of humans everywhere, but especially in Dublin, can I ask that we be accommodated in this world?
The latest attempt to ban humans from enjoying our amenities is hatching around the Bull Island (Letters, November 1st).
Previous attempts to ban people in cars from accessing the island were seen off, thankfully, when Dublin City Council made arrangements to accommodate the smooth movement of vehicles up and down the roadway from the Wooden Bridge to the island.
As for the new intrusive “Discovery Centre”, are we to be educated about our diversity at all? What is the purpose of a Unesco designation? Surely human beings have a right to a presence in any diversity?

I’m not optimistic about the expected “55,000 to 60,000 visitors who will have to pay an entrance fee” to the new Discovery Centre; the old discovery centre was a grim and deserted place any time I visited. And it was free. There are two golf clubs on the island. Great amenities indeed for golfers, and a lovely place to enjoy some leisure time. But can we also accommodate other people on the Bull Island? – Yours, etc,
SHEILA DEEGAN,
Clontarf, Dublin 3.
