Sir, – Kathy Sheridan sets out in a very stark manner the reasons why Qatar should not be holding the 2022 World Cup (“To watch or not to watch Qatar World Cup?”, Opinion & Analysis, November 16th).
Soccer fans sitting at home watching on TV should not be made feel guilty as the blame for this morally corrupt decision to award Qatar the hosting of the World Cup rests with Fifa. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – The soccer World Cup looms, and very few people, it seems, are actually discussing the football. There’s been a lot of talk about equality, tolerance and respect. Yet the same moral principles appear to be absent when most commentators mention Qatar.
Surely people, cultures and nations are entitled to hold and uphold their own value systems?
As the old adage has it, “If we only conducted business with people we agreed with, we would hardly do any business at all.” – Yours, etc,
