Sir, – Fifa has attracted constant criticism for its decision-making surrounding this year’s World Cup. Holding the event in Qatar and in the middle of the European league season rightly brought a lot of negative attention.
Now the football world’s governing body has made another bad call in scheduling the World Cup final at the same time as the eagerly awaited All-Ireland senior club hurling semi-final between Ballygunner of Waterford and Kilkenny’s Ballyhale Shamrocks, the southeast’s “El Classico”.
By all accounts it seems the GAA wasn’t even consulted. Odd. – Yours, etc,
