Sir, – As a lapsed trumpet player, one of my favourite parts of Nine Lessons and Carols from St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin was the trumpet fanfare late in the service.
In the last couple of years, it seems this task has been delegated to the organ, doubtless over concerns about the spread of a certain virus.
This year, may we hope that good sense will prevail? Having the trumpets back would be a fitting herald of the return to something like normality. – Yours, etc,
