Sir, – I am both surprised and more than a little disappointed at the decision by The Irish Times to devote a full page to an interview with Maria Bailey (“Maria Bailey on ‘swing-gate’ and Varadkar: ‘Leo threw petrol on a fire’”, News, January 21st).
At a time when our country is facing huge challenges, some of which appear insurmountable, this type of publicity is not welcome for someone who was the sole author of her own downfall.
Was this interview intended to evoke sympathy for Maria Bailey? If so, it failed miserably. No more of this, please. – Yours, etc,
