Remembering Maurice Collis

Burmese days

Sir, – Brian Maye’s Irishman’s Diary (January 16th) marking the 50th anniversary of Maurice Collis’s death is both timely and welcome. Collis, regarded as the finest late colonial writer on Burma, is remembered in Myanmar while largely forgotten in his native land.

I’m pursuing a PhD on Collis and his Burmese and literary contexts at the University of Limerick.

I’d be grateful if anyone who remembers him or any of his descendants were to get in touch at Joseph.Woods@ul.ie. – Yours, etc,

JOSEPH WOODS,
