Presidential term of office

Promises, promises

Sir, – I agree with Claire Kennedy (Letters, February 25th) that 14 years is too long for one person to be in “The Park”. Michael D Higgins did not honour his promise to serve one term only. He should have retired after seven years and given someone else the chance to take the position. Perhaps a six-year term with mandatory retirement at the end would be a good idea. – Yours, etc,

MARGARET BUTLER,

Booterstown,

Co Dublin.
