Sir, – I hear much commentary centred on “ordinary working families”. Working from the back, I’m a member of a family, one that now includes the children of my children. Being a grandfather brings many blessings, retirement being one. However, my children work and I worked for many years, therefore, at a stretch, the working box is ticked.
What perplexes me most is the ordinary bit. It is an ordinary question: is my family ordinary? I hope not, but if it is, please let it be extraordinary. – Yours, etc,
