Sir, – Please help us not to be subjected to photos of the US president Joe Biden in pubs, breweries or distilleries on his visit here.
Alcohol brands get enough free publicity. We’re inundated with endless studies on alcohol consumption and reports that seem to go nowhere. It’s time for real action and breaking this “tradition” would be a great start in implementing change.
Please don’t allow the visit to become alcohol soaked as seems to be usual with visiting dignitaries. – Yours, etc,
GERRY HICKEY,
Matt Williams: Take a deep breath and see how Sam Prendergast copes with big Fiji test
New Irish citizens: ‘I hear the racist and xenophobic slurs on the streets. Everything is blamed on immigrants’
Jack Reynor: ‘We were in two minds between eloping or going the whole hog but we got married in Wicklow with about 220 people’
‘I could have gone to California. At this rate, I probably would have raised about half a billion dollars’

Sir, – I love the occasional pint of Guinness (with a little dropeen of blackcurrant) but why are we hoping, praying, surmising that US president Joe Biden will at least “take a gulp”? The man has clearly said he is a non-drinker.
Let’s show the world that Ireland has grown up and can welcome and celebrate the arrival of a guest with a mug of tea, a glass of locally made refreshing lemonade or a decent coffee.
You’ll have a cup of tea, president, g’wan, g’wan, g’wan! – Yours, etc,
MAIREAD MURPHY,
