Sir, – In response to Debbie Byrne of An Post (Letters, April 24th), I have tried on a couple of occasions to lodge a sterling cheque in the post office to my AIB account, only to be told that they don’t accept sterling cheques. This entails a 45km round-trip to my nearest branch.
On the other hand, they will happily sell me sterling on a plastic card.
Banking, my foot! – Yours, etc,
TIM SWEETMAN,

Sir, – Debbie Byrne, managing director of An Post Retail, makes business arguments as to why customers of the now closed Ulster Bank should use the financial services of An Post.
I’d love to, but An Post closed my local post office. – Yours, etc,
