Radio accents

Sir, – Having served as the BBC correspondent in Dublin for several years – the best job in the BBC in my view – and lived in the city for several more after that, I was honoured to be mentioned alongside some fine broadcasters (”Irish voices on the BBC”, Letters, May 22nd).

BBC Radio 4 definitely does have an Irish accent, even if my own voice owes more to my roots in the northeast of England.

More importantly, your correspondent also highlights what I and so many others also feel: radio is indeed a constant, through pandemics, challenging times and more, adding richness and warmth to our daily lives. – Yours, etc,

JAMES HELM,
