Department of Defence properties and housing refugees

An option worth considering

Sir, – Like many in this country I have been shocked and appalled at the response by Government to the needs of refugees and the ability to provide necessary accommodation. It is our obligation to look after people fleeing war-torn countries. I attended a funeral recently in the Curragh Army camp and was amazed at the amount of infrastructure that was underutilised. Why not consider accommodation new or existing in the Curragh, as well as McKee Barracks in the Phoenix Park, Cathal Brugha barracks in Rathmines and Casement Aerodrome in west Dublin? These landholdings are not subject to planning laws as they fall under the Department of Defence and new buildings can be quickly erected without the need to go through lengthy planning applications and appeals process. – Yours, etc,
