Sir, – I was rather bemused when I read that gardaí were going on patrol at Disneyland Paris to engage with Irish tourists there (News, May 25th).
Who in Garda headquarters thought of this and did they get a bonus for this ground-breaking idea?
Sadly, Garda HQ and senior management are so far detached from the realities that the citizens of this island face each and every day that they, like some in Government, have turned a deaf ear to the needs of those they serve.
We have seen and heard time after time the lack of resources and Garda personnel on the ground due to a number of factors. But yet someone in the higher echelons of the force decided it was a good idea to transfer Garda members to the sandy beaches of France and the Disney theme park in Paris.

‘My wife, who I love and adore, has emotionally abandoned our relationship’
Is this how we should deploy much-needed resources, when the dogs on the street know that a tidal wave of criminality, anti-social behaviour and extremist protests by far-right activists are on the increase, while those at the top of our Garda Force want to engage in community relations with tourists in Disneyland? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Disneyland Paris recently announced new characters and light shows for this summer.
They didn’t mention new characters called “Simon Harris” and “Garda”. – Yours, etc,
