Henry Kissinger and a dark century

Nixon’s choice

Sir,– While it’s true that Henry Kissinger was the first foreign-born US secretary of state, he was initially appointed to the post not by Gerald Ford, as stated by Fintan O’Toole (“Henry Kissinger’s 100th birthday allows us to reflect on a dark century”, News Review, May 27th), but by Ford’s immediate predecessor, Richard Nixon. He was subsequently reappointed to the position when Ford succeeded Nixon as US president. – Yours, etc,

PAUL DELANEY,

Dalkey,

Co Dublin.
