Sir, – Seán Moncrieff is right in his comments on O’Connell Street (“Dublin’s O’Connell Street represents a spectacular failure of what our Republic should be”, Magazine, August 5th), but nowhere did he mention the magnificent cropped lime trees which grace both sides of the boulevard, and which have grown up beautifully since their planting in 2005. Indeed, Grafton Street could take a leaf from the northside’s book, and bring back the flower baskets which used to grace that street, but which disappeared without trace some years ago! – Yours, etc,
MAEVE EDWARDS,
Bray,
