Sir, – The butterfly on the purple coneflower (Gardening, September 16th) is a comma butterfly, not a small tortoiseshell butterfly. The comma has become established in the southeast of Ireland over the past number of years and appears to be spreading northwestwards. It was unknown on this island when I was a young lad in the 1970s. – Yours, etc,
SEAN FLEMING,
Ballycotton,
Co Cork.
