Sir, – Conor Pope recounts the tale of a parcel which was returned to the US because it didn’t have a full postal address but only an Eircode (“So near yet so far: parcel made it from the US to Dublin 8 before being sent back”, Pricewatch, September 18th).
If the sorting centre possesses a computer or even a smartphone, it would take less than a minute to enter “eircode.ie”, click in one place, and enter the Eircode. The full postal address appears, and only a pen is needed to copy it on to the parcel.
Compare this simple operation with the time, labour cost and fuel use of returning the parcel to the US. – Yours, etc,
JOHN GOODWILLIE,
