Remembering 2016 terror attack in Nice

Resilience, solidarity and hope

Sir, – In his “Letter from Nice” (”Nice seems minded to keep memories of mass murder out of sight “, Sport, September 22nd), Johnny Watterson writes that there is no reminder on the Promenade des Anglais of the victims of the 2016 terror attack.

There is, in fact, a beautiful sculpture named L’ange de la baie, by Jean-Marie Fondacaro.

Below the outstretched wings of an angel, the names of the 86 victims are engraved in the shape of hearts.

It is on the Promenade, near the Villa Masséna, facing the sparkling waters of the Baie des Anges.

The location is the spot where the lorry finally stopped on that awful night.

It is a moving symbol of resilience, solidarity and the hope of better tomorrows. – Yours, etc,
