Sir, – In recent times I have seen a TD shopping in Dunnes Stores; I have sat opposite a TD on a bus going into Dublin; I have queued for coffee beside a TD, and I have passed several in the streets. It is not long since it was common knowledge that the then taoiseach could be found (and approached) in his local pub. These are some of the things that make this country probably unique in the world and, while respecting the need to protect our civil liberties, we must do everything in our power to ensure that we don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. – Yours, etc,
DAVE ROBBIE,
Booterstown,
Co Dublin.
