Sir, – Regarding the article “Heated exchanges as Ministers told Ireland one of last countries not to change refugee accommodations offer” (News, October 25th), it would seem an effective plan for full integration of Ukrainian and other immigrants into Irish life would include a more comprehensive programme to teach adult newcomers English so they may be gainfully employed and thus earn economic independence.
The current adult immigrant ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) programme requires strengthening.
There is tremendous need for more ESOL teachers, tutors and a comprehensive curricula across the breadth of Ireland.
This relates particularly to rural areas where increasing numbers of immigrants are now housed.

Were there more materials and well structured ESOL programmes available, many of us would gladly volunteer to assist in this effort. – Yours, etc,
