Custodians of the sea?

Beach-cleaning frustrations

Sir, – The more I clean our local beaches on my daily walk the more annoyed I become at the amount of green/blue nylon rope offcuts caught up in seaweed and on the tide lines. I would have considered fishermen as custodians of the sea but from what I am cleaning up daily it’s changed my mind. They must take responsibility for this non-degradable material that is such a danger to marine life. These items must stay on their trawlers and be disposed of responsibly. – Yours, etc,
