Sir, – Congratulations to all on the opening of the Macroom bypass (“Taoiseach opens final section of €280 million N22 Macroom bypass”, News, November 6th).
It is over 30 years now since I was listening to the early articulation of the rationale for such a development. At the time, I was commuting weekly between Cork city and various parts of Kerry. I became familiar with every shopfront in Macroom as well as every furze bush, pothole and nasty bend on the road to the “county bounds”. I eagerly anticipated the stress relief the proposals promised.
Time passed and I moved on, but I am pleased that it has eventually come to pass and I wish all who drive there a safe journey. – Yours, etc,
