About time

Darker evenings

Sir, – Peter Declan O’Halloran points to difficulties should we end up with two time zones on the island of Ireland (Letters, November 24th). We should spare a thought for the few inhabitants of east Greenland who have recently changed their own system. Anyone taking a stroll due south from the weather station in Danmarkshavn to Ittoggortoormiit will find themselves passing through three different time zones – and then reverting to two time zones in the summer, as they also opt for daylight saving time to simplify matters! – Yours, etc,

THEO RYAN,

Wicklow.
