Sir, – Further to Pilita Clark’s “‘Double dipping’: why managers worry that staff have a second job on the sly” (Business, November 27th) and recent correspondence (Letters, November 29th), I would suggest the greater concern of employers with regards to double-jobbing employees is that the employer loses a lot of leverage when said employee can simply walk away from one job at a moment’s notice without becoming unemployed. After all, if it were simply about money, then why are so many employers so enthusiastic about dolling out excessive overtime(which makes taking up a second job that bit more difficult), but are then unwilling to offer part-time hours when requested? – Yours, etc,
WILL BREEN,
Cork.
