Dublin Marathon – reading the room

Dear hotels

Sir, – Further to “Dublin Marathon race director ‘at a loss’ to explain the 6,000 running no-shows at this year’s event” (Sport, November 4th), I suggest the reason was the cost of hotel accommodation. As a competitor, I, like most others, would have booked and paid for my place at an early stage as places are always limited, and then later booked accommodation. I paid €329 for a room only in a hotel on the outskirts of the city. This Saturday the same room is available for €229. – Yours, etc,

JOE MELLETT,

Swinford,

Co Mayo.
