‘A second job on the sly’

Paying the price

Sir, – Further to Pilita Clark’s “‘Double dipping’: why managers worry that staff have a second job on the sly” (Business, November 27th) and recent correspondence (Letters, November 29th and 30th), in Ireland, thousands of mothers, fathers, students, immigrants, etc, hold down two or even three (low-paying) jobs at a time to provide for, house and educate their families. The only problem I can see in this is that they are forced to do so due to the increase in the cost of living and a desire to send remittances home. Perhaps if they got paid more, employers would have the undivided attention of their employees. – Yours, etc,

TOMÁS FINN,
