Sir, – I read the shoplifting article in your paper (“Rise of shoplifting: Many of them are over 65... they steal meat, medicine, health and beauty products,” December 15th).
At a self-checkout in a shopping centre the other evening, a well-dressed young woman left with groceries. I went to the same checkout and it needed payment of € 16. I told the assistant that the lady passing out did not pay. He said, “Okay, we can check the video.” I told a more senior assistant and she said, “We can’t stop her because of defamation reasons.” Wow. – Yours, etc,
