Sir, – The snowdrops in this part of north Cork (“Waiting for the snowdrops”, Letters, January 10th) are doing fine. I saw buds on the ones in my garden on Christmas Eve and they have been opening steadily since.
They have slowed down this past week because it has been so cold.
The daffodils in my garden which have been there for many years are well above ground but will not open for at least another six weeks, but I have seen some, more recently planted, open nearby.
It must be the variety and not the weather that dictates when they open. – Yours, etc,
