Sir, – I find it staggering that a university can spend €1.1 million on flights in just over six months, €400,000 of which was splurged on business class travel (“UCD spends more than €400,000 on business-class flights in six months”, News, January 15th). While a portion of this excessive travel may generate additional income for UCD, it’s hard to envisage that all such travel is producing an appropriate commercial return. I can only imagine the associated cost of accommodation, subsistence, and client entertainment on these trips is equally jaw-dropping. The UCD justification that the spend is compliant with their travel policy is absurd. Has it heard of Zoom? – Yours, etc,
