NI Assembly – political inaction

MLAs should do the work they were elected to do

Sir, – Once again, the MLAs we elected almost two years ago have attempted to form the Executive, and once again a minority party with 25 out of 90 MLAs has prevented the return of Stormont. They listen to the extremists of their party rather than the wishes of the majority of the population who want local action to deal with pay parity with the rest of the UK, NHS backlogs, the environment, education funding, climate change, the cost of living crisis and all the other problems that need urgent action.

In a democracy, the wishes of the majority should be respected. The thousands of striking workers demonstrating in freezing temperatures show how urgent it is for the Assembly to meet and to do what we elected them to do. – Yours, etc,

MARGARET MARSHALL,

Belfast.
