Sir, – The subject of “community hotels” is topical, despite understandable reluctance for Government to get involved. However, I suspect many small rural shops, pubs and hotels will become less and less viable as populations decline and costs rise.
A community model, supported by local government, could, in certain individual circumstances, help to keep the lights on in business in small villages around the country, providing a much-needed local hub, possible training and employment, and a centre for news, support and the odd cup of tea.
