Sir, – What a remarkable discovery to find ancient human remains, over 2,000 years old, in a bog in Co Derry. (“Bog body: Human remains about 2,500 years old discovered near Seamus Heaney’s home”, News, January 26th). No doubt it will yield up priceless information to our scientists and historians. However, at present, with so many people opting for cremation after death, it occurs to me that, in 2,000 years from now, the discovery of human remains will be less likely to be available to future scientists. At the same time, though, if not cremated, I’m not sure I would like to have my remains pictured on the front page of The Irish Times in 2,000 years. – Yours, etc,
TONY CORCORAN,
Rathfarnham,
Dublin 14.
