A step in the right direction

A chara, – Norman Freeman credits the Mayo Greenway as being Ireland’s precursor in that recreational department (An Irishman’s Diary, February 27th). The Great Southern Trail has that honour.

The voluntary group, of which I have the honour of being cathaoirleach for over 20 years, are the heroes whose commitment ensured that the old abandoned railway line from Rathkeale, Co Limerick, to Tralee, Co Kerry, didn’t revert to farmland but would become a greenway, Ireland’s first. – Is mise,
