Sir, – Bobby McDonagh writes that “whatever the constitutional future holds, the Irish flag and the union jack will have to grow more comfortable in each other’s company” (“Many ‘patriots’ waving the Irish flag do not respect the country”, Opinion & Analysis, March 4th). In an otherwise excellent article, he fails to mention how rarely the union jack is seen in public places in contemporary Ireland. It is almost uniquely absent from the array of European and American flags on display. – Yours, etc,
