Sir, – I have tried the Re-Turn deposit scheme and fail to see the value in it. I was already recycling aluminium cans and plastic bottles with my waste collector.
I feel a better investment would have been a scheme returning clean glass bottles and jars for reuse without the journey through glass bottle banks.
Surely this would be lower in energy use than melting the broken glass into a bottle or jar again. One more idea would be to ensure manufacturers aim for fully recyclable packaging materials and provide clear details on their products regarding recycling and not labels such as “check locally” and “recycle at larger supermarkets”. – Yours, etc,
